The Grove Grizzly
Our final week of the Family Reading Program concluded today!! Wow, the last five weeks flew by so quickly!! We certainly had a blast highlighting reading at school and hope that it was an enjoyable experience for all of our families at home as well! The announcement and details regarding the BIG EVENT will be coming soon! Thank you to all of our families for making reading a priority by spending time increasing students amount of time reading at home and reading together!

We continue to assess and adjust our safety practice on an ongoing basis. Be sure to check out the new window decals and images that have been added to front entrance of the school in order to limit an outside view directly into the building. Not only are they an added safety measure, but they show off our Grizzly Pride!!

SAVE THE DATES – Parent/Teacher Conferences
We will be holding out spring parent/teacher conferences on Wednesday, March 18th from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday, March 19th from 3-7 p.m. I will be sending an official letter with details regarding conferences to parents next week but wanted to make sure that parents are able to plan accordingly in order to schedule conferences during the conference days designated by the District.

3rd Grade Folk Dance Night
Our third graders have been hard at work learning dances for our Third Grade Folk Dance Night, and this event is quickly approaching!  Please make sure that you have marked your calendars for Thursday evening, March 12th. The students have been learning a variety of folk dances in their music class, and this event will be a way for them to share their learning with their families.  Please note that there are different arrival times and locations for different classes.  Our third graders will be performing a dance for family members in the Multipurpose Room as well as participating in the main event in the gym.  Some classes will arrive a little early for this, and some will stay a few minutes later for this. Please click the link to the information letter with all of the details for the evening in both English and Spanish!!!

We had another great week with the Family Reading Program!! Students definitely enjoyed this week’s reward of pancakes and pajamas!! It is hard to believe we only have one more week to go!

CogAT Assessments for 2nd and 5th Grades
The CogAt Testing window for our 2nd – 5th Grade students is opening on Monday. Parents with students in those two grades can access the official CogAT Assessment Letter in the Virtual Backpack. Students completed practice tests over the last few weeks in order to become familiar with the format of the test and the types of questions that they would be presented with during the assessment. I encourage parents to ensure that their child(ren) get a good night sleep and have a healthy breakfast next week while the assessments are taking place.

The Grove Grizzly
Thank you to all of our room parents and parent volunteers who planned and attended our Valentine’s Day Parties on Friday!! The students had such a great time celebrating with their classmates and exchanging valentine cards!!!

Students can still submit pictures for our hallway display of them reading to a non-human friend (i.e. pet, stuffed animal, plant, etc.) and will we hang it up with our other submissions!! It has been so fun for students to see themselves and their friends as they walk past the section in the hallway!! Pictures can be emailed to classroom teachers, Mrs. Corey, or Mrs. Matthews to be printed!!

Technology Safety Information
This past week, our Director of Instructional Technology, Ty Gorman, presented at our PTO meeting. It was great to see so many parents interact with us about our students’ safety with technology! The feedback from parents was that the information shared was very beneficial, so I wanted to share
a link to the presentation with all parents. The document includes some information about our One to World Program in District 220, but it also includes step by step instructions for parents on how to use “Screen Time”, which is available on all IOS devices including student school iPads. “Screen Time” can be used to access reports about the time spent on apps, websites, and more. It can also be used to help monitor and mentor students with managing screen time, setting limits for apps and websites, and managing access to websites and apps.
