The Grove Grizzly

A Note From the Office

Thank you to our parents who attended the Principal/Parent Book Study this week! It was such a great opportunity to have the chance to sit down with parents and discuss many of the great ideas from the book on how to develop Gritty kids! I highly recommend this book to all parents and have included a link to the Ted Talk for Angela Duckworth, author of our book study, on the book Grit. This will just give you taste of what having “Grit” is all about and there is a lot more information for parents and educators in the book about fostering Grit in children and ourselves!!
Congrats to our 4th and 5th Grade band and orchestra students on a successful concert on Tuesday evening! Keep up the great work!!

Great Grove Reads

Rules for Stealing stars by Corey Ann Haydu

Pricilla, or Silly as her family calls her, is the youngest of four sisters. Recently they have had to move into their grandparents house. This is not a place that any of them want to be. Their father teaches fairy tale literature at a university while their mother has been struggling with strange behavior. This is the house that their mother grew up in. She keeps wandering in and out of closets looking for her sister that died, claiming she is stuck in a closet. All the children have been warned to never go into a closet… ever. But Silly’s older sisters don’t listen. They have found that the closets are magic and that they allow them to escape from the house that no one wants to live in. Each closet can do something different; some are fun and light while others are dark and dangerous. As their father is preparing to teach the story the Twelve Dancing Princesses, his daughters are learning that their mother and father may actually be part of that actual fairy tale. What really happened to their aunt? Why is their mother so disturbed? Does the truth lie in the closets or is it in real life and can the family ever get back to a normal life?
