A Note from the Office

4th and 5th Grade BIG EVENT
Our 4th and 5th Grade BIG EVENT field trip is scheduled for this coming Monday, April 16th! Earlier this week, all parents of 4th and 5th Graders provided permission for students to attend and indicated whether a student is bringing a sack lunch from home or they ordered a sack lunch from school. All lunches being brought from home must be in disposable containers that students do not need to bring back with them from the trip. Please also note that the buses will be leaving promptly at 8:15 a.m. on Monday morning in order for students to arrive at Sci-Tech with enough time to participate in all of the activities that will be available to them. As a result, it is critical that students are on time to school in order to attend the trip. Students will not need to bring anything with them for the trip besides their lunch. The students will return to school around 2:15 p.m.

Planning for Next School Year
As many of you are aware, the Board of Education approved a six-classroom mobile unit for Grove for next school year. The mobile unit will arrive this summer and will be located on the blacktop next to the building. Over the course of the next several months, we will be planning for the use of the mobile spaces, but the addition of the six classes that it is providing will alleviate the need to have homerooms in the Bloomsness Room. It will also enable us to accommodate all of our students whose home school is Grove and have more flexibility with our common spaces.

Great Grove Reads

If My Moon was Your Sun
by Andreas Steinhofel

This is short but moving story of a young boy named Max who makes a daring escape. His beloved grandfather, who is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, is in an extended care facility. One morning Max wakes early and goes directly to the facility; it wasn’t a well planned escape Max just knew he needed to try it. Awhile ago a guard showed him the security code and Max remembered it. Quietly he and his grandfather, followed by another resident Mrs. Schneider, walk out of the building. Max knows the perfect place to take his grandfather, a meadow where a person can sink into the grass, feel the earth and breathe; a place his grandfather is sure to remember. It is a glorious day and Max knows that his parents, the police, whoever... will eventually find them but until then they will enjoy this beautiful day. This is a lovely story of love and longing for stability in a world that is quickly changing for Max.
