Week 34 Newsletter

The Grove Grizzly
A Note From The Office

Thank you to all of our parents who chaperoned either of the BIG EVENT field trips over the last two weeks! We had 70 parents who helped between the two trips!! It is because of such great parent support that we are able to continue to provide fun and exciting activities for our students!!

While we only have three weeks of school left this school year, it continues to be extremely important for our students to arrive on time to school each day and ready to learn. Please be sure that your child arrives no later than 7:55 a.m. each day, as the school day starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. in the classrooms. We will be maximizing every minute we have with the students!!

Blueprint 220 Meeting in May
The Barrington 220 Board of Education invites the Barrington area community to three meetings in May to discuss how Blueprint 220 could impact YOUR student's future, YOUR property taxes and YOUR community. All meetings will have the same agenda.
Sat. May 12th: 9am, BHS Guidance Resource Center
Mon. May 14th: 7pm, Grove Elementary Gym
Thurs. May 17th: 9:30am, Station Library
Refreshments will be served at all meetings!

Episode 5 of Learning NOW in Barrington 220 is OnlineCommunication & Collaboration
This episode is a milestone in the series as it introduces the Parent/Community survey invitation at the end of the episode. Our hope is for viewers to take the survey after watching at least one Learning NOW in Barrington 220 episode.

Episode 5 of Learning NOW in Barrington 220 is all about how students use One to World technology devices for Communication & Collaboration. Barrington 220 students Morgan Smith (Grove Elementary), Brittney Monreal (Barrington Middle School - Station), and Ishani Majmudar (Barrington High School) talk about the many ways they communicate and collaborate in their learning, including online video messages, collaborative Google Docs, FaceTime video chat, Seesaw online classroom spaces, the Schoology learning management system, and some of Barrington 220’s video production opportunities.

Online Registration for Returning Students Now Open
Online Registration for the 2018-19 school year opened on May 1st at 7:00 pm.  The district is planning for all current students to return to Barrington 220 in the fall of 2018!  However, families do need to register and update student and family demographic information before May 29th. Students are not considered to be "officially registered for 2018-19" until parents have completed Online Registration.
All families were sent an e-mail with registration information earlier this week from the district. Families planning to relocate to another school district before school opens in August are asked to respond to that email with a subject line of MOVING OUT OF DISTRICT, and include the name and grade of your son/daughter(s).  Please also notify the Grove School Office. We wish you the best!
It is important parents remember student logins cannot be used to access Online Registration.  Parents needing assistance with a PARENT LOGIN should contact the Parent Help Desk at 847-842-3580 or by email to campusportal@barrington220.org.
Parents will have the opportunity to update student medical information and handle all required annual parent permission forms when registering online.

Great Grove Reads

Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School, and Other Scary Things
by Lenore Look

Are you looking for a funny realistic fiction book? Then try Alvin Ho! Alvin is afraid of everything! He is so afraid at school that he never says a word. This makes the teachers at school concerned and the kids baffled. At recess, Alvin tries to join in the games but when you won’t talk to anyone it makes it very difficult. At home, Alvin is a different kid; he is loud and imaginative. This sometimes irks his dad especially when Alvin touches his dad’s things without asking. But Alvin’s dad does things differently too; his dad unleashes Shakespearean insults to no one in particular and plays the piano to calm down. Alvin’s mother, on the other hand, is protective of Alvin and is quick to come to his defense. This book is told from Alvin’s point of view and is both heartfelt and funny.
