The Grove Grizzly A Note from Mrs. Matthews   Halloween Reminders Lunch: Please be sure to complete the Halloween Lunch Plans Google Form as soon as possible in order to indicate whether or not your child willing be going home or staying at school for lunch on Halloween!   Parent Attendance: All parents who are planning on attending the class party, must notify the room parent(s) for their child’s class in order to ensure they have a visitor’s badge printed ahead of time. All visitor’s must have a badge in order to be permitted to enter the school and attend the party. This new practice is intended to ensure the safety of all of our students during the Halloween Celebration.   Celebration Details: Exact details and a schedule for the festivities for the day were shared in last week’s Grizzly and can be accessed by clicking on the link to Halloween celebration details.   Principal/Parent Book Study During my presentation at Back to School Night, I invited all parents to join me and our Assistant Principal, Laura Boskelly, for a Parent/Principal Book Study using the book Screenwise by Devorah Heitner, PhD. The book study will be on Tuesday, November 13th at 6:30 p.m. at Grove. Please click on the RSVP Link to indicate that you will be attending the event. The RSVP is simply for planning purposes for us to determine the space at Grove where we will host the conversations and how to best set-up for the event! I hope you will join us for some great conversation with parents in our community around how we can work together to create responsible digital citizens!   Upcoming Dates: Friday, October 19th – No School Sunday, October 21st – PTO Trunk or Treat, 3-5 p.m. @ Grove Tuesday, October 30th – Picture Retakes Tuesday, October 30th – Learning App Demonstrations for Parents - 6:00 p.m., Screenwise Speaker: Dr. Devorah Heitner Presentation, 7:00 p.m. @ Prairie Wednesday, October 31st – Halloween Parade 12:30 p.m. and Parties 1:00 p.m.  Thursday, November 1st – End of First Grading Period Friday, November 2nd – No School for Students, Teacher Institute Day Thursday, November 8th – Family STEM Night (must pre-register) Tuesday, November 13th – Principal/Parent Book Study, 6:30 p.m.   Positive Claw Winners Week of October 1st  Congratulations to our top three winners for earning the most Box Tops at Grove! 1st place: Emiko Griffith (5th grade) with 276 box tops 2nd place: Ethan Gerdzunas (2nd grade) with 246 box tops 3rd place: Samuel Castillo (2nd grade) with 192 box tops Each winner will receive a gift certificate to the Fall 2018 Book Fair. As a school, we were able to collect over 5,400 box tops and earn money for Grove.  I wanted to thank all of the parents, students and teachers that participated in the Fall Box Tops contest.  Great job everyone! Save the Date for The Grizzly Ski Lodge Parent Party!  It’s time to Save the Date for Grove’s Parent Party! The Grizzly Ski Lodge themed silent auction and dinner is on Friday, February 8, 2019.  Please keep an eye out for packets that came home in your child’s backpack this week.
