The Grove Grizzly
Math Summer Study
All parents will receive an e-mail this coming week with information regarding our plans for our students’ math summer study. This summer we are requiring all students to complete the summer workbook that correlates with our Math in Focus curriculum for their grade level. Parents will be able purchase the workbook in IC and then workbooks will be sent home with the students. Please be on the look-out for the coming e-mail with all of the details.

Additional information regarding summer study for other content areas will be coming soon as well!

Grove 1st Graders are Making a Difference!!!
If you would like to support our first graders and contribute to their efforts, please click on this link to donate!! See below for details on their efforts!!

First grade students at Grove have been learning about what it means to be a good citizen. The students studied different historical leaders and have seen how they made a difference in the world. The students have decided that they want to make a difference in the world, too! They are partnering with a nonprofit organization called Rock-Paper-Scissors Children's Fund. The RPSCF provides pink bicycles, helmets, safety education, as well as bicycle repairs throughout the year for under-resourced girls in Vietnam.  Riding a bicycle to school instead of walking can save a girl 3 hours a day. Many families cannot afford for their daughters to be gone from the home for the additional 3 hours that it may take to get to and from school.  The bicycles also come with an extra seat in the back to carry another person and a large basket in front. The bicycles are not only used for school transportation, but also help the family go to the market and provide transportation to receive medical care. Grove's first grade students are asking people to sponsor them on a 2 mile walk on Friday, May 10th to raise money for RPSCF. They will walk from Grove Avenue School to Ron Beese Park and then return to the school. All money donated will go to provide pink bicycles for girls in Viet Nam. Research shows that when girls become educated the whole community benefits! We walk so they can ride!

This year’s Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6th-10th) is coming up soon! Please consider volunteering to help make this week extra special for our teachers and staff.

Monday, May 6th -Teachers will enjoy their newly renovated teacher’s lounge!

Tuesday, May 7th (before 9:30am) - We will be treating our teachers and staff to their favorite drinks from Starbucks. Sign up here to purchase one for your child’s teacher or favorite staff member.

Wednesday, May 8th (morning) - Teachers will enjoy a “game day” breakfast before school. Please sign up here to drop off some yummy food and/or beverages for the teachers.

Thursday, May 9th (morning) - Students will bring a flower and a thank you note to their teacher in the morning. Students can create their own thank you cards or can use this template. One room parent per classroom is needed to arrange the flowers in a vase that morning.

Friday, May 10th (afternoon) - Help ‘pop’ popcorn or help us deliver popcorn and other concession stand snacks to our teachers. Please email Page Majewski (page@wildcatinvst.com)if you would like to help Friday afternoon.

We are in need of more than 100 volunteers to help with our
Second Annual Grove Avenue School Field Day
on Friday, May 17th.

Volunteer HERE!!

Please note that a rain date has been set for Friday, May 24th.  The success of this program depends on our volunteers!  We had a great first year field day, so lets recreate that experience for our kids again this year.

You may volunteer for the entire day, and we hope many of you will.  If you are a room parent in the morning session, you may only run a game or treat station in the afternoon.  All room parent helpers will need to stay with their assigned class for lunch from 11-11:40 am.  Each class will need a wagon.  Please email dankmylin@gmail.com if you have a wagon we can borrow for the day.

We are so grateful for all that you do for all our children! Thank you!! Thank you!!

Best Regards,
Grove Avenue PTO

5th Grade Farewell

We need your help to give the 5th graders a memorable send off to middle school! We are looking for parent volunteers to help hang decorations and arrange food donations from 1pm-3pm on Thursday, May 30th. Historically, 4th grade parents help out the night of the event. If interested, we would need help from 5:30pm-9:00pm. Thank you to those parents who have already volunteered. If you would like to help, please contact Tasia Remi at tasiaremi@yahoo.com, Elena at kouruklis.elena@gmail.com or Page at page@wildcatinvst.com
