Thank you to all parents for attending Parent/Teacher Conference this past week either virtually or in-person! It is always great to connect with our parents to discuss students' growth and progress both academically and socially/emotionally. Our continued partnership and mutual support is more important than ever!

I have included very important information below regarding our switch to the hybrid model next week. Please review the arrival and dismissal procedures carefully and make sure that you complete the COVID screener for your child before he/she leaves for school in the morning. You will do this using the digital screening app, if your child is attending in person. Please also share the Grove Hybrid Procedures video with your child so they can also see what to expect next week when coming into Grove. We look forward to welcoming our students back into the building on Monday!

Hybrid Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

Please review the document and video with detailed directions for parents who are dropping off and picking up students for in-person learning. We are expecting an increased volume of students who will be car riders and have adjusted our procedures in order to help things move along efficiently. As a result, it will be important for parents to ensure they know exactly where to drop-off and pick-up students each day, as we have assigned families to specific areas based on the number of car riders we anticipate to have each day. Please note, we have added a pick-up and drop-off area to our procedures.

COVID-19 Symptoms Screening for In-Person Learning

All students participating in our in-person hybrid learning, must have a completed electronic version of the COVID-19 Symptoms Screener filled out prior to entering our building. This must be filled out the same day the student is attending school and not the night before. Parents can use a cell phone, iPad, or computer to visit health.barrington220.org, log in, and complete the survey. Be sure to click SUBMIT after answering each of the questions!! Upon students’ arrival to school they will hold up their I.D./bus tag to be scanned and school staff will be able to immediately determine whether or not a student can be permitted to enter the building. Directions for using the new system are included below!!

Preparing for the Switch to Hybrid Learning

As we are making plans for the return of our students in the hybrid learning model, there are several things that parents can do to help prepare for their child’s transition as well! Please check out the list below:

  • Have your child practice wearing a mask for extended periods of time, as students will be required to wear a mask for the duration of the time they are in the building.

  • Make sure your child has their I.D. and red coil with the holder for their I.D., as these will be scanned to ensure that students have a completed COVID-19 Screener and can enter the building quickly upon arrival

  •  Bookmark the COVID-19 Symptom Screener health.barrington220.org, to easily access it each morning and certify your child prior to their arrival.

  • Consider an organization system for your child’s supplies/materials to be transported to and from school, as students will need many of the supplies we sent home at the beginning of the year for learning at school on their in-person days.

Social Emotional Support for Students

As our students continue to navigate our consistently changing landscape due to COVID-19, we are continuously considering how our children are coping and their overall mental health. Please know that our school and district are here to support our students who are struggling and may benefit from additional resources. Please see the attached letter regarding this and view the short video explaining how families can access the online META app that is also available to connect students with counselors while at home.

Board Seeks Community Input

on Next Superintendent

As you may be aware, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Brian Harris, will be retiring at the end of June after serving more than 30 years in public education. The Board is working with search firm School Exec Connect to select the district’s next leader.

At our Oct. 6 Board of Education meeting, the Board shared an upcoming opportunity for community members to provide input on the district’s superintendent search. A Virtual Community Forum is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7pm.

During the virtual forum, community members will be able to provide input on the district’s strengths, the district’s challenges, and the characteristics the next superintendent should possess. If you would like to participate in the forum, please click here to register

The Board is also asking community members to fill out an online questionnaire. It should only take about five minutes to complete, and it will be available until Oct. 30, 2020. Click here to complete the online questionnaire.
