Family Reading Program Week #5 Reward

Next week will be our fifth and final week of the Family Reading Program!! Our Week #5 Reward is our ever popular tradition of Pancakes and Pajamas!! In-person students will be participating in this reward during the designated time for their class throughout the school day. We will utilize the same set-up for this activity that we are using for our current lunch procedures with students eating 6 feet apart either in the MPR or the Gym. We are assuming that all students who currently attend in-person will participate in this reward. Safe alternatives will be provided for our students with any allergies. If there is a parent of an in-person learner who does want their child to participate, they should contact their child’s teacher directly.

Remote learners in 1st-5th grades are invited to come in-person to participate in this reward with their class on Friday morning from 8:00- 8:30 a.m. Remote learners in kindergarten are invited to come in to participate with their class from 8:40-9:00 a.m. Once again, we will be following our procedures for eating with students distanced 6ft. apart in the MPR or the Gym depending on their area that their class is assigned. All students coming into the building for the reward must have a completed COVID Screener. Students should bring their I.D. to be scanned in order to enter the building. We will be offering an alternate Virtual Reward during the same 8:00-8:30 or 8:40-9:00 time slot via Zoom for any remote learners who do not opt to come in-person. Please be sure to fill out the Google Form that was linked in the email blast to RSVP as to whether your child will be participating in the reward in-person or opting for the virtual alternative.

Remote Learning Questionnaire for Parents

Today, the district sent out a questionnaire to all parents of elementary students to gain a commitment from families who want to have their child enrolled in a Remote Learning Program (Virtual/Blended Program) for the entire school year next year. All families are being asked to complete the questionnaire to indicate whether their child(ren) “will not participate” or “will participate” in remote learning. Directions to access the questionnaire were included in the email and families are being asked to complete the questionnaire by Thursday, April 29th. If there is not sufficient interest to meet minimum class sizes in this program, a Remote Learning Program (Virtual/Blended Program) will not be offered. The Barrington 220 Virtual/Blended Program will be considered a special program during the 2021–22 school year. Students may only participate in one special program at a time. Barrington 220 will not offer Virtual/Blended versions of Chinese Immersion, Spanish Dual Language, Special Education Self-Contained, and Extended Self-Contained.

Upcoming Illinois Assessment for Readiness

We will be administering the Illinois Assessment for Readiness (IAR) for our 3rd-5th grade students during the weeks of April 19th and April 26th. The IAR is the required standardized state testing. Our students will take three English Language Arts Tests (one per day) on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, April 21st-23rd. With 5th grade students taking their third assessment on Monday. April 26th due to a middle school visit on Friday, April 23rd. The following week, students will complete three Math tests (one per day) on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, April 28th-30th. Make-up assessments will be conducted when possible throughout the assessment window and through the following week of school.

Parents can help ensure that their children are prepared to do their best as well! Please be sure that your child:

  • Gets a good night sleep on the evenings before the tests

  • Eats a healthy breakfast on the morning of the assessments

  • Arrives to school on time, as some testing will begin immediately in the morning

  • Brings their iPad updated and fully charged

  • Brings their school issued headphones or earphones

Please be sure to read the official letter regarding IAR from our district. The letter addresses assessments for remote learners. All students must take the assessments in-person, so any parents of remote learners wanting their children to take the assessments should complete the Google Form included in the Grizzly email blast. Remote learners will be tested at the same time and dates as the in-person students in each grade level. Exact times for assessing each grade level are included in the Google Form.

Social Emotional Support for Students

As our students continue to navigate our consistently changing landscape due to COVID 19, we are continuously considering how our children are coping and their overall mental health. Please know that our school and district are here to support our students who are struggling and may benefit from additional resources. Please see the attached letter regarding this and view the short video explaining how families can access the online META app that is also available to connect students with counselors while at home.
