Winter Party Volunteer Sign-Up

We are excited that once again, our PTO will be holding our Winter Parties for students in classrooms on the day before Winter Break - Wednesday, December 22nd from 1:15-2:00 p.m.  PTO is currently looking for three parent volunteers per class to coordinate and run the parties. We kindly ask that if you volunteered for the Halloween party, you allow other parents to sign up for that classroom's winter party first. On Sunday, December 5th remaining slots will be open to all parents to volunteer. The three room parents for each classroom will be the only parents permitted to enter the building for the parties, as we are still required to follow social distancing guidelines and limit contacts due to COVID. Each volunteer will need to show proof of vaccination, or provide a negative COVID-19 test to participate as mandated by Gov. Pritzker and outlined by District #220 (English and Spanish).

Please only sign up to volunteer in one classroom as there will not be an opportunity to volunteer in multiple classrooms at once. Thank you for your understanding as we try to allow as many parents to participate this year as we are able.

Hour of Code Week

The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. It takes place during Computer Science week from Dec. 6th - 12th. The purpose is to introduce the fun of coding to ALL students. While our students do have regular experiences with coding through our STEM program, we will still be highlighting Hour of Code Week next week with our students and providing them with opportunities to participate in Hour of Code Week through collaborative projects in STEM and Library, as well as, in the students’ homerooms. Teachers may also be sharing some resources with students that they can access at home to participate in coding activities after they have completed them in class.

A Message from STEM Teacher Mrs. deBruin

Have you finished all of your Holiday Shopping, Grove?

Every year near the gift giving season, Purdue University's Engineering Department puts out a STEM gift giving guide. It is an awesome resource for STEM books, games, robotics, puzzles, and more!

"Items included in the guide go through an extensive review process led by a student team. Faculty in the School of Engineering Education and the INSPIRE student research team look for items that promote engineering practices ranging from coding and spatial reasoning to problem solving and critical thinking. Selected gifts are included below in the mini gift guides grouped by interests and age groups."

You can check out the site here! Happy Shopping!

Volunteer at Barrington Giving Day!

Each December, Barrington Giving Day invites Barrington 220 families in need to a Giving Day event where they receive warm coats, boots, hats, gloves, bedding, books, children’s gifts, and more for the holiday. This year over 750 families are invited to the event on Saturday, Dec. 11 at Station Middle School.  This event depends on the time and effort of many volunteers.  Please consider volunteering for a shift for this community event. Thanks for volunteering! Click here to sign up for volunteer opportunities.
