Thank you to all of our families who participated in Grove’s Family Food Fair on Tuesday evening! It was so great to spend time with families and learn about each family and their favorite dishes! Each dish shared was delicious!!

Second trimester report cards were posted to IC for parents to view on Friday. Be sure to login to IC to view your child’s progress! The sign-up for parent/teacher conferences opens this Monday morning. Please see below for details!!

Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences

At Grove Avenue Elementary School we encourage communications on behalf of our students. One of the hallmarks of an excellent school and a strong school culture is a high degree of positive interaction and mutual support between home and the classroom. Twice each year, once in October and once in March, time is provided for parent teacher conferences. During these conferences we seek to accomplish three objectives: (1) discussing your child’s progress, (2) providing parents the opportunity to share their observations of their child’s progress, and (3) providing the opportunity to share information and discuss plans between teacher and parent and make plans on behalf of your child. Discussions at the spring conferences should primarily be focused on progress and plans for this school year.

Spring conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, March 16th from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday, March 17th from 3-7 p.m. (As a reminder, there is no school for students on Friday, March 18th.) We ask that you plan accordingly in order to schedule conferences during the conference days designated by the District.

The allotment of time designated for spring conferences and the number of spaces available is more limited than the fall window. We value your support and will try our best to connect with parents who would like to communicate regarding their child, however, a conference may not be needed for every student. In addition to classroom teachers, all other certified personnel and staff are available for a conference.

Once again, we will be using the system “Meet the Teacher” for parents to sign-up for conferences starting Monday, March 7th. When signing up, parents will need to indicate whether they plan to attend the conference in person or would prefer a conference via Zoom. Please click on the link below for directions to use “Meet the Teacher” in order to sign-up. When parents log on, they will be able to sign-up for conferences for multiple children and for any staff member that works with their child including our art, gym, music, STEM, and library teachers. Conferences with specials teachers are not required, but are an option we are offering to parents. In addition, all related services staff members will be available to meet with parents separately from the conferences with classroom teachers. As a result, parents can also schedule conference times with our Social Worker, Speech and Language Pathologist, Reading Resource Teachers, English Learner Teacher, Special Education Resource Teachers, and the Extended Teacher. It is highly recommended that parents meet with any related service staff member that works with their child.

1st and 2nd Grade Virtual Musical

The Grove 1st and 2nd graders have worked hard to record a musical program for our Grove families!  Mrs. Boyer will be sending out a virtual program for the event via IC on Thursday, March 10th.  The program will have a link to the musical recording. We hope families will make this a fun and celebratory event for our students! Perhaps popping some popcorn or other special treats to enjoy as you watch the program together as a family will be fun!!  I have included a link to directions for how to connect either an iPad or computer to your TV if you wish to view the program on a larger screen!! You of course can also gather the family around a device, but it might be beneficial to comfortably watch the event on your TV screen!!  We hope that this program of light and positivity brings joy to your family this winter season!

Framework 220 - Community Feedback Needed for Long Term Strategic Planning

Barrington 220 is excited to embark on a strategic planning process called Framework 220, which will define the school district’s future vision and initiatives over the next three to five years. The district is very interested in casting a broad net to our school and community stakeholders to better understand our community’s expectations and priorities for Barrington 220. This is why we are launching the process by asking all of our parents and community members to complete this online questionnaire. As a parent and staff member in this district, your voice is critical. The more responses we receive the better we will understand the expectations of our community. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. To learn more about how you can participate, visit: www.barrington220.org/framework220

5 Essentials Survey

Please click on the links below to a letter regarding an important survey for the parents of Grove Avenue School. The results of this survey will be included as a portion of our official School Report Card and school ranking next fall. As a result, your participation and input is important, as we need at least 20% of our parent population to participate. Students in grades four and five, as well as, the Grove Avenue Staff will be participating in the survey.

The survey will be open until the beginning of April, but please take a few minutes to complete the survey as soon as possible. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Due to the fact that our district office is located in Lake County, parents will need to choose Lake County at the login page in order to then access the Grove link. Links to the survey site are included in the letter! Please feel free to contact Mrs. Matthews directly with any questions regarding the survey.
