2nd and 3rd Grade Family Folk Dance Night

All 2nd and 3rd grade students and their families (including siblings) are invited to attend our Family Folk Dance Night! During this event, our 2nd and 3rd grade students will be teaching their families folk dances that they have learned in music class. Please be ready to join them in their dancing!

  • 2nd Grade Arrival, Dance Time, and Picnic: Students should arrive in the Grove gym at 5:50 so that we can start dancing right at 6:00! 2nd grade students and families will participate in the folk dance night from 6:00-6:30 PM. At 6:30, we invite all 2nd grade families to move to the MPR for a family picnic. Please note that the picnic will be finished at 7:00 so that we can accommodate the third grade families.
  • 3rd Grade Arrival, Dance Time, and Picnic: Students should arrive in the Grove gym at 6:40 so that we can start dancing right at 6:45. Please do not arrive sooner, as the 2nd grade students will be in the gym prior to the 3rd grade students. 3rd grade students and families will participate in the folk dance night from 6:45-7:15 PM. At 7:15, we invite all 3rd grade families to move to the MPR for a family picnic. The picnic will conclude at 7:45.
  • Location: Students will go to the GROVE GYM for the folk dance portion of the evening. Students in the grade level and their families are then invited to move to the MPR after the dancing portion for a grade level picnic and socializing time together!!
  • What to Wear: There is no dress code for this event, but please make sure that both you and your students are wearing comfortable clothes that are suitable for movement. Gym shoes are encouraged!
  • Picnic details: For the picnic portion, please bring a picnic-style dinner from home for your family. During this time, we encourage you to socialize with other families as you eat your meal in the MPR!

Thank you again for all of your support! The students are excited to teach you their dances! Please feel free to contact Mrs. Boyer at cboyer@barrington220.org if you have any questions!

Teacher Experience Raffle Winners

Thank you to all of our families who supported the Grove Parent Party in February!! Even though some families couldn’t attend the event, they still supported the fundraising efforts by purchasing raffle tickets for the teacher experiences!! Thanks to the support of all who attended the party or participated in the raffle, the event was a great success! I have included a link to the list of winners for each of the teacher experiences. Grove staff members will reach out to individual winners to coordinate the experiences with families directly!!

5 Essentials Survey

Please click on the links below to a letter regarding an important survey for the parents of Grove Avenue School. The results of this survey will be included as a portion of our official School Report Card and school ranking next fall. Students in grades four and five, as well as, the Grove Avenue Staff will be participating in the survey.

The survey will be open until the beginning of April, but please take a few minutes to complete the survey as soon as possible. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Thank you to all of our room parents and other parent volunteers who planned and ran our Valentine’s Day parties this past week! It was a special day for our students!!!

Family Reading Program

We had such a fun day at Grove on Thursday kicking off our Annual Family Reading Program!! Hopefully you heard from your child all about the original skit performed by our Grove Staff to kick-ff the program! Detailed information about the program was emailed to parents on Friday.

Students were also provided with a copy of the book Brambleheart (one copy per family, sent home with the youngest sibling in a family) with the intention of every family reading the book together! Our One Book, One Grove initiative will not only connect families, but our entire Grove community throughout the course of the next five weeks. Students will be able to discuss the book with parents, neighbors, classmates, and any other Grove students! We are encouraging families to read the book in the best way that works for their family. This may include parents reading to children, siblings taking turns reading aloud to the family, or a child reading to their parents! Once again, we have obtained the blessing of the author for Grove staff members to record themselves reading the chapters for students to listen to throughout the course of the program. Please access the link provided in the Grizzly email blast to access the weekly recordings and listen to the chapters! These recordings are meant for Grove students and families only and will be accessible through March 31st.

The first weekly reading choice board will be due on Thursday, February 23rd and students will receive their Family Reading Program t-shirts on Friday, February 24th for our first weekly celebration. We can’t wait to see all the students and staff in their shirts next week!

Happy Reading!!!

Grove Student Newspaper Publication - 5th Edition

Please check out the fifth publication of our Grove 4th & 5th Grade Newspaper!! This is a new club that started at Grove this year! The mission of the club is to strive to nurture a passion for writing, promote creativity and collaboration, and foster a sense of belonging. Most of all, it seeks to hear the voices of our students. The club will be publishing one edition each month throughout the school year. Past issues are now archived on our Grove website - here is the link. It is in the "Families" tab. We will continue to share publications with our students, staff, and parents each month! Enjoy!

CogAT Assessments

The CogAt Testing window for our 2nd – 5th Grade students opens this coming week. Parents with students in those two grades can access the official CogAT Assessment Letter for more details. I encourage parents to ensure that their child(ren) gets a good night sleep and has a healthy breakfast each day while the assessments are taking place. Our students will be testing on February 23rd, 24th, and 27th, with make-ups and other necessary sessions happening throughout the two weeks.

Valentine’s Day Parties

We are looking forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day in our classrooms this coming Tuesday, February 14th! If your child is planning to pass out Valentine Cards to classmates, please make sure that they have one for every student in their classroom. Our classroom teachers have shared specific directions for their classrooms in terms of how students should complete their cards and how they will be distributed in their classroom.

Please keep in mind that our room parent volunteers who are already signed up to run and volunteer at the parties are the only adults who we will be allowing admittance to the building. All volunteers must submit a valid state I.D. to have a badge run for entrance for the parties.

Fastbridge Parent Reports

Parent reports will be sent home with students on Monday, February 13th for our kindergarten and 1st-grade students who took the Fastbridge Early Reading and Fastbridge Early Math assessments. These reports reflect the student’s performance on the assessments during our Winter Benchmark Assessment window that was done in December. Please reach out directly to your child’s classroom teacher with any questions regarding your child’s report.

Parents will receive reports again following the spring assessments that will take place in late April/early May.
