Morning Arrival Procedures

As we shift into spring, we will be looking to transition back to having students go to our playgrounds in the morning before school starts. We do have several logistical obstacles to overcome with this as a result of the current construction that is taking place near the K-Ground (primary playground), however, we are working on the details of this and will be transitioning after spring break. I will be sending out additional information to parents prior to the transition in order to ensure parents are informed of our updated procedures and we will be preparing students for this transition before it occurs as well! Please stay tuned for details to come!

Grove Warrior Dash - April 22, 2022

We are very excited for our first ever GROVE WARRIOR DASH hosted by our Grove PTO on Friday, April 22nd!! This school wide event is designed to provide a fun filled activity for students that promotes school pride and community spirit, while raising funds to support our students and staff! Our PTO is hard at work planning the special day for all students, as it will take place during the school day. Please be sure to check out the event guide shared below to learn more about how your child can be involved and how you can support our PTO’s efforts to continue to provide amazing opportunities for our students!

All parents are invited to attend to help cheer on students during the run. Volunteers are needed to help assist with the various activities along the race course. Please see the sign-up genius linked in the event guide to view grade level run times and to sign-up to volunteer!

COVID Notification Update

We will continue to be maintaining the district COVID dashboard each week for our community, however, we will also be communicating directly with families when there are positive COVID cases in their child’s classroom. This practice is similar to the practice we have used previously when communicating with families about things like strep throat or lice. In the event that there is a positive case of COVID in your child’s classroom, parents will receive a letter directly from the school nurse. Should there be multiple cases in a classroom, families will be notified of any additional recommendations being made for students in the class to work to minimize the spread. Please feel free to reach out to Nurse Brierton should you have any questions.

Framework 220 - Community Feedback Needed for Long Term Strategic Planning

Barrington 220 is excited to embark on a strategic planning process called Framework 220, which will define the school district’s future vision and initiatives over the next three to five years. The district is very interested in casting a broad net to our school and community stakeholders to better understand our community’s expectations and priorities for Barrington 220. This is why we are launching the process by asking all of our parents and community members to complete this online questionnaire. As a parent and staff member in this district, your voice is critical. The more responses we receive the better we will understand the expectations of our community. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. To learn more about how you can participate, visit: www.barrington220.org/framework220

Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences

At Grove Avenue Elementary School we encourage communications on behalf of our students. One of the hallmarks of an excellent school and a strong school culture is a high degree of positive interaction and mutual support between home and the classroom. Twice each year, once in October and once in March, time is provided for parent teacher conferences. During these conferences we seek to accomplish three objectives: (1) discussing your child’s progress, (2) providing parents the opportunity to share their observations of their child’s progress, and (3) providing the opportunity to share information and discuss plans between teacher and parent and make plans on behalf of your child. Discussions at the spring conferences should primarily be focused on progress and plans for this school year.

Spring conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, March 16th from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday, March 17th from 3-7 p.m. (As a reminder, there is no school for students on Friday, March 18th.) We ask that you plan accordingly in order to schedule conferences during the conference days designated by the District.

The allotment of time designated for spring conferences and the number of spaces available is more limited than the fall window. We value your support and will try our best to connect with parents who would like to communicate regarding their child, however, a conference may not be needed for every student. In addition to classroom teachers, all other certified personnel and staff are available for a conference.

Once again, we are using the system “Meet the Teacher” for parents to sign-up for conferences. The sign-up will close this Sunday, March 13th. When signing up, parents will need to indicate whether they plan to attend the conference in person or would prefer a conference via Zoom. Please click on the link below for directions to use “Meet the Teacher” in order to sign-up. When parents log on, they will be able to sign-up for conferences for multiple children and for any staff member that works with their child including our art, gym, music, STEM, and library teachers. Conferences with specials teachers are not required, but are an option we are offering to parents. In addition, all related services staff members will be available to meet with parents separately from the conferences with classroom teachers. As a result, parents can also schedule conference times with our Social Worker, Speech and Language Pathologist, Reading Resource Teachers, English Learner Teacher, Special Education Resource Teachers, and the Extended Teacher. It is highly recommended that parents meet with any related service staff member that works with their child.
