4th Grade Iron Giraffe Challenge
After reading the novel "A Long Walk to Water, the 4th-grade students decided they want to be the change in the world. As a result, they are participating in The Iron Giraffe Challenge to raise money for a well in South Sudan.  Students are recycling new and used items to sell during lunch periods from Monday, March 18th - Thursday, March 21st to raise funds for a well in South Sudan.  Please help support the cause by allowing your child to shop at the "Recycle for Change" sale next week.  Items are $1 - $3 and include games, books, headbands (new), jewelry, slime, and more!  Donations are also welcome.  You can send cash or a check made out to Grove Elementary with "Iron Giraffe Challenge" in the memo field.
If the students raise $1,000 or more, they will be entered into a drawing to win a visit to our school from Salva Dut, the main character in the novel, "A Long Walk to Water" which prompted the desire to raise funds.

To join the session, visit the Barrington 220 School District Facebook page during the designated time slot: www.facebook.com/barrington220.

Last Day of School and Summer School
Our tentative last day of school is June 4! Due to the inclement weather we have experienced so far this school year which resulted in make-up days at the end of the year, the tentative last day of school is Tuesday, June 4th. The Board of Education will approve the final 2018-19 academic calendar in April. It is important that students are in attendance on our make-up days, as these days are a part of our academic calendar and effect our overall attendance for our school report card, as well as, individual student attendance records.

Barrington 220 has also adjusted the dates for the 2019 summer school sessions. Please review the following new schedule:

High School (No class on Fridays)
Session 1: June 10-June 27
Session 2: July 1-July 23 (no school July 3-5)

Middle School/Elementary School
June 6-June 27
(Classes WILL take place on Friday June 7, June 14 and June 21)

*Note: The Jump Start I/DL summer program at Sunny Hill WILL have classes on Fridays. Jump Start II will NOT have classes on Fridays.

Winter Boots and Clothes Still Necessary!!!
Please make sure that your child is still bringing boots to school each day. The school grounds have had a lot of water, snow, and ice over the last several months and the playgrounds and fields are extremely wet. As a result, students will still be in need of boots and dry shoes to change into each day for several weeks longer this year!! There is additional rain predicted for this weekend as well, so we are anticipating continued wet conditions in our future!!!

Lost and Found
Our school Lost and Found is extremely full. Please be sure to check for your child’s belongings during Parent/Teacher Conferences later this month. All items left in the Lost and Found following Parent/Teacher Conferences will be picked up for donation on Friday, March 22nd.

School Start Time Reminder
Please remember that our morning drop off begins at 7:40 a.m. Students report to either the primary or intermediate playgrounds at these times. Students have time to play and then line-up to go inside at 7:55 a.m., as the school day officially begins at 8:00 a.m. All students are expected to be in their classrooms for the beginning of class at 8:00 a.m. Students arriving at 8:00 a.m. or after are late and missing important time with their classmates and teacher for the start of a successful school day. Consequently, please try to ensure that your child arrives to Grove between 7:40 and 7:50 a.m. each day in order to ensure a smooth transition into the morning routine of the classroom.

Spring Conferences
The electronic conference sign-up for our spring parent/teacher conferences will close on Sunday, March 17th. Directions for signing up are listed below.

Grove “Meet the Teacher” Parent Guide in English
Grove “Meet the Teacher” Parent Guide in Spanish

Conferences will be held after school in the afternoon and evenings of Wednesday, March 20th from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday, March 22st from 3-7 p.m. Please be sure to plan accordingly in order to be able to attend conferences during the conference days that have been designated by the district for teachers to meet with parents. This is valuable time to discuss the individual growth and skills of your child, as well as, work together with the teacher to plan and set goals towards your child’s individual progress.

The number of spaces available for this conference period is more limited than the fall window, as a conference may not be needed for every child at this time. With that said, we continue to value your support and communication and will try our best to connect with parents who would like to communicate regarding their child's progress.
