Update on CDC Guidance

This evening, Dr. Hunt sent out communication to all District 220 Families regarding the updated CDC Guidance involving masking in schools and on buses. Please click on this link in order to be sure to read this important message from our superintendent regarding changes for tomorrow and Tuesday. I will be sharing an update for our students in the morning via a video announcement. Please keep in mind that even though the CDC is no longer recommending Barrington 220 students, staff, and visitors wear a mask on school transportation or inside school buildings, anyone who wishes to continue wearing a mask is welcome to do so. We will continue to communicate with our students that masking is an individual choice and we must respect one another’s decisions.

Framework 220 - Community Feedback Needed for Long Term Strategic Planning

Barrington 220 is excited to embark on a strategic planning process called Framework 220, which will define the school district’s future vision and initiatives over the next three to five years. The district is very interested in casting a broad net to our school and community stakeholders to better understand our community’s expectations and priorities for Barrington 220. This is why we are launching the process by asking all of our parents and community members to complete this online questionnaire. As a parent and staff member in this district, your voice is critical. The more responses we receive the better we will understand the expectations of our community. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. To learn more about how you can participate, visit: www.barrington220.org/framework220

5 Essentials Survey

Please click on the links below to a letter regarding an important survey for the parents of Grove Avenue School. The results of this survey will be included as a portion of our official School Report Card and school ranking next fall. As a result, your participation and input is important, as we need at least 20% of our parent population to participate. Students in grades four and five, as well as, the Grove Avenue Staff will be participating in the survey.

The survey will be open until the beginning of April, but please take a few minutes to complete the survey as soon as possible. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Thank you to all of our parents who helped plan and run our Valentine’s Day Parties this past week! The students had a blast and truly enjoyed the time together!

Please remember that school STARTS at 8 a.m., which means that students need to arrive prior to 8:00 a.m. in order to be ready for instruction to begin. Students can arrive starting at 7:45 a.m. and enter the building at 8:50, giving them time to unpack, chat with their friends and teachers, and get settled prior to instruction starting. If your child arrives at 8:00 a.m. or after, please be sure bring your child to the main entrance and come inside with him/her to sign your child in for the day. This is a safety measure for our students, as we need to make sure we know when students have arrived and can accurately account for them on our attendance in the morning.

CogAT Assessments

The CogAt Testing window for our 2nd – 5th Grade students opens next week. Parents with students in those two grades can access the official CogAT Assessment Letter for more details. Students completed practice tests in class to become familiar with the format of the test and the types of questions that they will be presented with during the assessment. I encourage parents to ensure that their child(ren) gets a good night sleep and has a healthy breakfast each day while the assessments are taking place. Our students will be testing on February 24th, 25th, and March 1st, with make-ups and other necessary sessions happening throughout the two weeks.

Valentine’s Day Parties

We are looking forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day in our classrooms this coming Monday, February 14th! If your child is planning to pass out Valentine Cards to classmates, please make sure that they have one for every student in their classroom. Our classroom teachers have shared specific directions for their classrooms in terms of how students should complete their cards and how they will be distributed in their classroom.

Please keep in mind that our room parent volunteers who are running the parties are still required to provide either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test in order to enter the classroom for the party. Once again, the three room parents per classroom will be the only volunteers attending the parties this year.

Family Reading Program - Family Food Fair Sign-Up

Today is the final day to sign-up to be a part of our FRP Family Food Fair. We hope that families will join us for our Family Food Fair on Tuesday, March 1st! Please register for the event on the Google Form by this evening - Friday, February 11th!! I have included further details about this event below!!

Our book for the One Book, One Grove this year sparks many avenues for us to explore as a school community from culture, to baking, to Shakespeare! As a result, the Grove Avenue Staff would like to invite our Grove families to take a deeper dive into the idea of learning about one another and our different family traditions by sharing some of our favorite delicacies, comfort foods, or customary sweet treats and savory bites with one another. We will be hosting a Family Food Fair on the evening of Tuesday, March 1st.

Families are invited to participate in the evening by preparing samples of a favorite family dish that they will bring with them to the event. Guests will then participate in a tasting, where they will have the opportunity to try the dishes brought by other families. Each family that participates will be asked to provide a list of ingredients and share the recipe for their featured dish, which will be organized into a Grove Family Recipe Book and shared with all that join in the fun!

In order to best plan for how to safely organize this event, we ask that families sign-up to participate by the end of the day on Friday, February 11, 2022. Based on the level of interest of our community, we will then finalize the details in regards to the exact time, location, and protocols and procedures as they relate to keeping everyone safe with specific COVID measures. Those details will be shared with our families who have committed to the event on Friday, February 18th.

Please note, all attendees must sign-up ahead of time to participate, each family must bring a dish to share, and one adult must accompany and stay with their child(ren) throughout the event. Please be sure to sign-up on the Grove Family Food Fair Google Form by Friday, February 11th to participate! Instructions for submitting recipes and ingredients will be sent to families who sign-up along with additional information on February 18th.

Virtual Backpack

We have many families who are new to our school and may not be aware of the Virtual Backpack that is connected to our school website. The Virtual Backpack is a place where fliers and information from outside groups can be found. The Grizzly highlights Grove School, Grove PTO and District 2020 sponsored activities, but there are many other community opportunities available to our students in Barrington. If you are interested in having your child participate in other groups such as scouts, YMCA activities, sports, language programs and fine arts experiences, be sure to check out the Virtual Backpack on a regular basis to view various opportunities, as fliers are added on a weekly basis. To access the Grove Virtual Backpack, be sure to be on the Grove Webpage, click on the “Parents” tab, and then click on the “Virtual Backpack” tab. Some activities posted on our site are specific to Grove students, such as the scouting groups that meet at Grove or Grove’s Chess Club.
