The Grove Grizzly
A Note from Mrs. Matthews

Barrington Giving Days
There is still time to contribute to Barrington Giving Days. Our school is still collecting Baby Wipes. Other items such as new winter clothing can also be donated. All items must be brought in by December 4th. For more information about Barrington Giving Days, please click on the link to the webpage.

Winter Wear
Please make sure that your child comes to school with a hat, gloves, scarf, boots, and snow pants each day. Students must have boots and snow pants in order to play in the snow. We do allow students the opportunity to sled on a rotating basis during lunch recess, but they must be properly dressed in order to participate. It is highly recommended that you write your child’s name or initials in all of their items. It is also beneficial for students to dress in layers so that they can remain comfortable throughout the school day!

Please Be On TIME!!!
This is a friendly reminder that the school day begins at 8:00 a.m., which means that all students should be in their classrooms by this time. As a result, students should be arriving to school between 7:40 a.m. and 7:55 a.m. Students who arrive at 8:00 a.m. are late for the beginning of the day and missing out on important morning routines and announcements, as well as, the beginning of instruction and specials.

1st Grade, 4th Grade, and Choir Concert
On Thursday, December 13th our 1st Grades, 4th Grades, and Choir will be having their music concert. The students will be performing for the whole school at 1 p.m. in the afternoon. There will be limited seating available during this performance for parents or family members to attend. The evening performance for parents and families will be at 6:30 p.m. and should have plenty of seating. Students should arrive for the performance at 6:00 p.m. and should be dressed in nice clothing.

The Grove Grizzly
Thank you for our PTO for a great Donuts with Dads event on Thursday! It was wonderful to see so many dads come out to have breakfast with our students!!

Barrington Giving Days
Each December Barrington Giving Day invites families who are in need within the Barrington School District 220 to a Giving Day. Here they receive boxes of food, warm coats, blankets, books, and gifts. Members of Barrington churches, schools, businesses and civic organizations are always generous in their support of this day. Barrington Giving Day (www.barringtongivingday.org) serves almost 400
families in need in our school district.

This year, the Grove Community is participating by collecting baby wipes. Our PTO has set-up a giving box by the office where baby wipes can be dropped off. Donations will be accepted through this Tuesday, November 20th. Students are welcome to bring items to school in their backpacks and drop them off or parents can drop them off to the box.

Report Cards for the First Marking Period
Our first marking period was over last week. As a result, our teachers are currently working on report cards and the reports will be released to parents electronically via the IC Parent Portal at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20th. Report cards will NOT be printed and sent home in paper form this year, as we are trying to Go Green and eliminate the paper!

Cold Weather Procedures
Now that the cold weather and snow are officially upon us, I would like to make sure that parents are aware of our cold weather procedures. During the winter months, our students will go outside for recess as much as possible. If the temperature or wind chill is zero degrees or below the students will remain inside for recess. When the wind chill is above zero students will be outside. As a result, please be sure to send your children to school fully dressed to be outside for recess. It is also recommended that students bring layers such as sweatshirts and sweaters to take on and off as well. In order for students to play in the snow at school, they must have a winter coat, snow pants, boots, gloves, and a hat or earmuffs, as we want them to stay dry and be able to return to the classroom in the afternoon and concentrate on learning. We will try to have extra items for students at school in the case that they forget, but it is beneficial for students to bring all of these items each day during the winter so they are prepared no matter what. In addition, students should have a pair of gym shoes to wear during the school day while in class and in order to participate safely in P.E.
