As we move into the week of Thanksgiving, it is certainly a time of gratitude, celebration, and reflection. In reflecting upon the past year, we are certainly thankful for the progress we have made with returning students to school. While it took some time for everyone to get back into the routine of things and there is still progress to make; I am pleased to share that our building once again has that wonderful hum to it when all students have arrived and are in their classrooms in the morning. We are enjoying hearing the shrieks of excitement throughout the building, seeing students skip down the hallway, and encouraging laughter, play, and fun in learning with peers!! It is with gratitude that we thank you for your partnership in your child’s education and our daily efforts to continue each child’s growth and development. We wish everyone a healthy and enjoyable Thanksgiving shared with those with whom you love. We are grateful for each and every member of our Grove Community and the opportunity to work with you and your children everyday!!! We hope you have a wonderful holiday this week!

Report Cards Available to be Viewed in Infinite Campus Tuesday!!

As of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23rd First Trimester Report Cards will be available for parents to view on Infinite Campus. Once again, we will not be printing and sending home report cards to parents, the reports will only be available via the parent portal. Please be sure to go in and view your child’s progress report this week.

GROVE Cold Weather Procedures

During the winter months, our students will go outside for recess as much as possible. If the temperature or wind chill is zero degrees or below the students will remain inside for recess. When the wind chill is above zero students will be outside. As a result, please be sure to send your children to school fully dressed to be outside for recess. It is also recommended that students bring layers such as sweatshirts and sweaters to take on and off as well.

In order for students to play in the snow at school, they must have a winter coat, snow pants, boots, gloves, and a hat or earmuffs, as we want them to stay dry and be able to return to the classroom in the afternoon and concentrate on learning. We will try to have extra items for students at school in case they forget, but it is beneficial for students to bring all of these items each day during the winter so they are prepared no matter what. In addition, students should have a pair of gym shoes to wear during the school day while in class and in order to participate safely in P.E.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found is starting to look very full! Please remind your child to check it for any missing items. Students often take their layers off in P.E. or at recess and do not claim them at the end of the period. As a result, the items end up in the lost and found. Parents are also welcome to come in and check the lost and found for items. All items left in the lost and found when we break for Thanksgiving will be donated over the break!! Please be sure to check for missing items before then!!

GROVE Cold Weather Procedures

Now that the cold weather and snow is officially upon us, I would like to make sure that parents are aware of our cold weather procedures. During the winter months, our students will go outside for recess as much as possible. If the temperature or wind chill is zero degrees or below the students will remain inside for recess. When the wind chill is above zero students will be outside. As a result, please be sure to send your children to school fully dressed to be outside for recess. Barrington 220 Cold Weather Protocol

Information was sent out this week from the district regarding our Cold Weather Protocols for winter. Please click on the link to view the official district Inclement Weather Webpage for details regarding our procedures. A few basic details that I want to highlight and make sure parents understand are listed below:

  • School Closing Communication - School closings due to inclement weather or other unusual circumstances will be announced on the district website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Families will also receive a text, phone call and email through the Infinite Campus automated emergency notification system.

  • There are three potential scenarios that will be implemented in the event of inclement weather: School Cancellation, Early Dismissal from School, Distance Learning.

Distance Learning: All school buildings will be closed, however students and staff will complete the school day from home. Early childhood through fifth grade children will have access to their assignments through their teacher’s usual electronic communication method of See-Saw or Schoology, and/or will follow their IEP eLearning plan. Additionally, kindergarten through fifth grade students will receive assignments for Specials (art, music, physical education, library, and STEM) that they would typically have for the day from their teachers. Please note - distance learning on an inclement weather day is different from last year when we were in remote learning on a daily basis. Students and teachers will not be zooming for the entire school day. Students will have five (5) school days to complete their assigned work for the day and receive additional assistance from their teacher as needed. You can review our Inclement Weather Distance Learning FAQ for more information.

Barrington Giving Days

Barrington Giving Day is a Non-Profit organization that invites families on the Free and Reduced lunch program in the 220 School District to a Giving Day event where they receive food, warm coats, hats/gloves, blankets, books, toys and other much needed items. Over 900 families in our community are in need of help. There are collection boxes in the main office of Grove where items such as new or gently used and clean winter clothing, new or like new toys, books, new blankets, and unopened diapers or pull-ups may be dropped off from now until December 8th

This year we kindly ask that Grove families focus on donating puzzles and games (board games, card games, etc!) to give to our local families in need this holiday season. Giving Day is a truly amazing effort and is impactful to so many in our community! Please consider donating.
