The Grove Grizzly
A Note from Mrs. Matthews

Report Cards for the First Marking Period
Our first marking period was over last week. As a result, our teachers are currently working on report cards that will be released to parents electronically via the IC Parent Portal at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20th. Report cards will not be printed and sent home in paper form this year, as we are trying to Go Green and eliminate the paper!

STEM/Engineering Holiday Gift Guide
Purdue University is a leading institution in engineering. Each year, they publish a gift giving guide for the holidays with items that promote gift ideas to engage girls and boys in engineering thinking and design. Please see the guide for ideas for the holidays that may be of interest to your child and also promote skills that will help prepare children for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math careers!

Principal/Parent Book Study
During my presentation at Back to School Night, I invited all parents to join me and our Assistant Principal, Laura Boskelly, for a Parent/Principal Book Study using the book Screenwise by Devorah Heitner, PhD. The book study will be on Tuesday, November 13th at 6:30 p.m. at Grove. Please click on the RSVP Link to indicate that you will be attending the event. The RSVP is simply for planning purposes for us to determine the space at Grove where we will host the conversations and how to best set-up for the event! I hope you will join us for some great conversation with parents in our community around how we can work together to create responsible digital citizens!

Cold Weather Procedures
Now that the cold weather and snow is officially upon us, I would like to make sure that parents are aware of our cold weather procedures. During the winter months, our students will go outside for recess as much as possible. If the temperature or wind chill is zero degrees or below the students will remain inside for recess. When the wind chill is above zero students will be outside. As a result, please be sure to send your children to school fully dressed to be outside for recess. It is also recommended that students bring layers such as sweatshirts and sweaters to take on and off as well. In order for students to play in the snow at school, they must have a winter coat, snow pants, boots, gloves, and a hat or earmuffs, as we want them to stay dry and be able to return to the classroom in the afternoon and concentrate on learning. We will try to have extra items for students at school in the case that they forget, but it is beneficial for students to bring all of these items each day during the winter so they are prepared no matter what. In addition, students should have a pair of gym shoes to wear during the school day while in class and in order to participate safely in P.E.
