Family Reading Program - 2023-2024 - Reading Gives Your Imagination Wings

We had such a fun day at Grove on Thursday kicking off our Annual Family Reading Program!! Hopefully you heard from your child all about the original skit performed by our Grove Staff to kick-ff the program! Detailed information about the program was emailed to parents on Friday morning.

Students were also provided with a copy of the book Solimar (one copy per family, sent home with the youngest sibling in a family) with the intention of every family reading the book together! Our One Book, One Grove initiative will not only connect families, but our entire Grove community throughout the course of the next five weeks. Students will be able to discuss the book with parents, neighbors, classmates, and any other Grove students! We are encouraging families to read the book in the best way that works for their family. This may include parents reading to children, siblings taking turns reading aloud to the family, or a child reading to their parents! Students can also listen to the story by checking out the audiobook via Overdrive. Miss McLean will be working with students this coming week to show them how to access the book in Overdrive if they are interested in listening to it throughout the course of the program.

The first weekly reading choice board will be due on this Thursday, February 15th and students will receive their Family Reading Program t-shirts for our first weekly celebration. We can’t wait to see all the students and staff in their shirts!

Happy Reading!!!

Reminder - Student Personal Items and Electronic Devices at School

We ask that students refrain from bringing toys, trinkets, and other personal items such as electronic devices (cell phones & smart watches) to school. These items are typically very special or valuable to students and they run the risk of being lost. These also can be a distraction from learning. When students have personal electronic devices at school, they are required to leave them in their lockers or put them on a teacher table or desk in order to avoid the items being a distraction. If a student needs to contact a parent, our staff will help facilitate contact via the classroom phone or the main office. Thank you for your support in reinforcing these guidelines in order to ensure our students are able to focus on learning and avoid disappointment with lost or missing items.

5 Essentials Survey

Please click on the links below to a letter regarding an important survey for the parents of Grove Avenue School. The results of this survey will be included as a portion of our official School Report Card and school ranking next fall. As a result, your participation and input is important, as we need at least 20% of our parent population to participate. Students in grades four and five, as well as, the Grove Avenue Staff will be participating in the survey.

The survey will be open until the beginning of April, but please take a few minutes to complete the survey as soon as possible. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Due to the fact that our district office is located in Lake County, parents will need to choose Lake County at the login page in order to then access the Grove link. Links to the survey site are included in the letter or you can click the link here to access directly! Please feel free to contact Mrs. Matthews directly with any questions regarding the survey.
