The Grove Grizzly
A Note From the Office

Thank you to all of our families who contributed to the collection of supplies and funds for Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas, specifically, the students at Rhodes School of the Performing Arts. Almost twenty large boxes were sent to the school along with letters and cards from our students!

Blueprint 220
A Chance to Weigh in on the Future of Our Schools
What do you want our schools and our community to look like five, 10, 20 years down the road? The board of education plans to hold a special meeting to discuss the Blueprint 220 initiative, where all community members will have a chance to learn more about possible Blueprint 220 concepts and ideas. The interactive meeting will feature videos and student performances. It will start at 6:00pm on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Barrington High School.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Our first session of parent/teacher conferences are coming up this week. By now, all parents should be signed-up for a conference for each child. Please contact your child’s teacher or call the school office if a last-minute issue arises with the conference. The opportunity to meet with every child’s parent to discuss individual student growth and development is a priority to our staff and critical to our school/home connection and the success of our students. Please click on the Parent Toolkit for what to expect at conferences and how parents can prepare for conferences.

Principal/Parent Book Study
During my presentation at Back to School Night, I invited all parents to join me and our Assistant Principal, Laura Boskelly, for a Parent/Principal Book Study using the book Grit by Angela Duckworth. Please click on the RSVP to indicate whether or not you will attend either the evening or morning sessions that we are offering. The RSVP is simply for planning purposes for us to determine the space at Grove where we will host the conversations and how to best set-up for the event!

Calling all 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Singers
We are starting choir at Grove!

The choir is open to all third, fourth and fifth grade students who love to sing. The Grove School Chorus will meet in the music room on Tuesdays after school from 2:40-3:30.
Our first rehearsal will be Tuesday, October 24th. There will be no rehearsal on 10/31 (Halloween).
There is a $15 fee associated with the school chorus assessed through the Student Portal. This fee covers the cost of a T-shirt, music and an accompanist for our concerts. It also pays the entrance fee to the District Choral Festival.
Traditionally the Grove Grizzly Singers perform at the Holiday Musical, the Annual District Choral Festival (Sunday, March 18th from approximately 12:30-6:00pm) and Success Night. We will also sing at other school functions as needs arise or as we are invited. If you would like to join Grove’s Choir, please use this QR Code or follow this link:

Great Grove Reads

Soar by Joan Bauer

There are several things that are unusual about Jeremiah. 1) He was adopted by Walt, the man who found him in the office coffee room. 2) When he was younger Jeremiah needed to get a heart transplant. 3) He loves baseball. When his dad is transferred from St. Louis Missouri to Hillcrest Ohio they are both nervous. Besides everything that goes into starting at a new school it also means that Jeremiah will need to find a new cardiac team in their town... and that part is a really big deal. Jeremiah loves baseball and his new town loves it too. It seems like it’s a great fit. Then the high school team is accused of using performance enhancers and suddenly no one wants their child to play baseball anymore. This seems ridiculous to Jeremiah who would play if he could.  Jeremiah and a group of kids from town decide to start their own baseball team; no adults just them. As they gain steam they are met with a lot of resistance from parents, and other teams. But Jeremiah learned, when he had his heart transplant, to never give up and nothing is going to stop him now. This is a great book about perseverance.
