The Grove Grizzly
We had a great first week of the Family Reading Program!!! Students received their FRP T-Shirts on Friday as their Week #1 Reward and the school was a sea of yellow! We also had an amazing time with guest author, Liesl Shurtliff, on Friday! Please continue to read with your child each day and log their nightly minutes! Don’t forget about the Masterpiece audio recordings of our staff reading the book that students can listen to as use to count towards their weekly minutes!!

Thank you to all of our parents who have completed the 5 Essentials Survey! We did reach the 20% needed to receive the results of the survey, however, we would still love to have the feedback of more parents as well!! If you haven’t had a chance to complete the survey we would greatly appreciate your input!!!

Kindergarten Round-Up for 2020-2021 School Year
Parents of our incoming kindergarten students are invited to attend our Kindergarten Round-Up on Monday, February 3rd at 6:30 p.m. At this time, parents will hear an overview of the kindergarten programs, meet kindergarten staff, ask questions, and have the opportunity to pre-register for the 2020-2021 school year.

More detailed informational sessions for parents interested in Spanish Dual Language or Chinese Immersion programs will be held in February.

Please be sure to share the date for Kindergarten round-up with neighbors, friends, and community members who have kindergarten-age children and may not have a child in the school system to hear about the event from our district.

Erin’s Law Presentations
Many states, including Illinois, have passed a law with the intent of increasing the awareness of child sexual abuse. You may have heard of this legislation under it’s more common name, Erin’s Law, in honor of Erin Merryn, a young woman who has crossed the country advocating for laws that will increase awareness of this crime against children. One of the requirements of this law is that schools provide an age appropriate curriculum to all students relating to sexual abuse prevention. The purpose of the lessons is to provide students with the tools they need for personal safety, and to help them build confidence in advocating for themselves.

Mrs. Corey (Assistant Principal) and Mr. Walcott (Social Worker) will be conducting these lessons with our students on February 6th and February 7th. Classroom teachers will also be at the presentations. Please be sure to read the official letter regarding the presentations from Mrs. Corey. You may also contact either Mrs. Matthews, Mrs. Corey, or Mr. Walcott regarding more specifics of the content of the presentations.

The results of this survey will be included as a portion of our official School Report Card and school ranking next fall. As a result, your participation and input is important, as we need at least 20% of our parent population to participate. Students in grades four and five, as well as, the Grove Avenue Staff will be participating in the survey.

The survey will be open until February 14th, but please take a few minutes to complete the survey as soon as possible.

These are students from every school in Barrington 220 including Grove. Whether you can only stop in one time or you want to help once a month, the help is greatly appreciated. You can bring young children with you, relatives or a friend. The more people who show up, the quicker it goes. This small sacrifice of your time really does make a big impact.
Sign up below so our chairperson Jen Scott knows to expect you. Any questions can be emailed to mrs_jenniferscott@yahoo.com
