We had another successful week of bringing students into the building for MAPs assessments. If your child is still coming in next week for an assessment, please make sure that you follow the COVID-19 system screening process prior to arriving at Grove. This process will be used when students return to school for in-person learning during our hybrid model. Following this process now will be a great way for us to ensure that things run efficiently when we have larger groups of students arriving at the same time in October!

In-Person Learning Hybrid Plan

Earlier today, our district released information regarding a hybrid plan to start getting students back to school for in-person learning. The plan is a combination of in-person and remote learning. Families will have the option to remain in full remote mode with this plan should they choose. Please be sure to review the elementary plan in full for details as to how the plan will work and watch the 5 minute video explaining the schedule. Starting this coming Monday morning, parents will be asked to complete a questionnaire indicating if they will be opting into the hybrid plan or remaining in remote learning. All families must complete the questionnaire designating which option they are choosing for their child. There will also be a question regarding transportation and whether or not your child will utilize bus service if they are enrolled in the hybrid plan. Your timely response to the questionnaire will be appreciated, as this information will help us plan for the hybrid learning model and determine how students will be divided into groups. It will also help us coordinate arrival and dismissal procedures when students come to school for in-person instruction.

Intermediate Teacher’s Literacy Professional Development Training - Oct. 2nd & 5th

On Friday, October 2nd and Monday, October 5th our intermediate teachers will be participating in professional development with a staff developer from Columbia University. This training is a part of our second year in a two-year commitment we made to learn from and work with experts in the implementation of our reading and writing curriculum.  As a result, students in 3rd-5th grades will possibly have a change to their daily schedule on these two days, as there will be a portion of the day when each teacher will be working directly with the staff developer. Classroom teachers will communicate directly with parents regarding the shifts in their class schedules on those days and they will inform the students, as well. I apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause, however, this will definitely prove to be a beneficial and timely training as we shift into a hybrid model where staff will be balancing literacy instruction in-person, remotely, and providing asynchronous lessons or activities for students to complete independently.

COVID-19 Symptoms Screening System

We have started using an electronic version of the COVID-19 Symptom Screener prior to students entering our building. This system replaced the paper-based system for students that we used during Meet the Teacher. Parents can use a cell phone, iPad, or computer to visit health.barrington220.org, log in, and complete the survey. Be sure to click SUBMIT after answering each of the questions!! Upon students’ arrival to school they will hold up their student I.D./bus tag to be scanned, and school staff will be able to immediately determine whether students can be permitted to enter the building. Directions for using the new system are included below!! Please note, the screening must be completed the morning of the student attendance, if it is completed the night before, it does not count for the next day and will need to be redone!!
