Thank you to our PTO and all of our parents and students who helped make Teacher Appreciation Week special for the Grove staff this past week!!! The yummy treats, breakfast, taco lunch, flowers, and heartfelt cards/letters truly brought so many smiles to the faces of our teachers this week! We are so lucky to have such a wonderful community to partner with and the thoughtfulness and kindness of everyone means so much!!!

Shield Testing Update and Lunchroom Set-Up

We have seen a decrease in our COVID numbers over the past two weeks. As a result, we no longer will need to test two times per week. We will return to testing one time per week on Fridays for the remaining two weeks of testing. All of the testing in D220 will end on May 20th. We will wait one more week to ensure that our numbers stay at a minimum and in the instance that they do, we will then shift our lunchroom set-up to our pre-pandemic structure starting the week of May 16th.

The BIG Event

Our Family Reading Program BIG Event celebration for students will be this Wednesday, May 11th! We will be going to Barrington High School in the morning for a private showing of the Disney Movie: Ratatouille in the high school auditorium. Students will enjoy some allergy safe movie snacks and we will return to Grove following the event. The lunch schedule for each grade will start a bit later on Wednesday as a result.

Library Book Returns

As you know, we are in the middle of an exciting time of construction at Grove and the projects to upgrade our school will continue this summer, with new projects beginning right as school ends. Construction will start in the library with the elevator upgrade immediately upon the conclusion of the school year. Therefore, we need to stop checking out books and make sure that all books are returned in order to be organized, boxed, and moved so they are properly stored for the summer before the last day of school. This is especially critical to ensure that the books are not exposed to elements during construction that could damage them.

As a result, the last day for checkout was this past Friday. All books will be due back to the Grove library this coming week unless kids are close to finishing a chapter book and need more time. If a student is close to finishing a book they can finish and then return the book.

Mrs. Banach will be sending notices for books that your child still has on their account at the conclusion of this coming week. She will also be checking the library to make sure any books in question are not on the shelves. In addition, Mrs. Banach has been communicating with students about other ways they can access books to read over the next few weeks. This includes utilizing resources such as Sora to check out electronic books. Students have access to books in their classroom libraries and the Barrington Area Library will be coming out to Grove to talk with students about their resources and summer programs.

We thank you in advance for your assistance in returning books to Grove by the end of this week in efforts to help us account for our collection and properly prepare the library space for the work being done this summer.

Grove Spring Open House & Book Fair - The Road to Success is Always Under Construction!!!

We will be hosting a Spring Open House and Book Fair on Thursday, May 19th! This is an opportunity for parents to come to school with their children to view some of the work that is currently in progress in their child’s classroom, walk through the building to view artwork, take home student artwork from the year, and purchase books from the book fair for summer reading! This is a casual evening for families to come and go based on what works for their schedule anytime within the 6:00-7:30 p.m. window. Ice cream and Italian Ice cups will be served in the MPR and outside (weather permitting) for families to mingle and enjoy a treat together before they leave. We will also provide access to the new 4 classroom space for our community to tour the project in its current stage of development!!
